Hibiscus Seed Oil (Hibiscus sabdariffa)
Roselle hibiscus is more commonly known as "roselle" or "red sorrel". The oil from the seeds of Hibiscus sabdariffa contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's) which help minimize the appearance of dark spots, hyperpigmentation, and scarring. Consistent use of this oil can help brighten and smooth irregularities of the skin that could be caused by sun-exposure, hormonal changes, or acne. Hibiscus seed oil is gentle and suitable for sensitive skin while also providing potent treatment. Containing high concentrations of linoleic acid, hibiscus seed oil is ideal for acne-prone skin and can help break down black heads and impurities. Lastly, hibiscus seed oil is high in antioxidants, protecting the skin from environmental free radicals that can cause skin to age pre-maturely. Free radicals harm your skin by breaking down collagen— leading to increased chance of fine lines, dullness, and dark spots. Antioxidants are neutralizing. They neutralize the negatively charged free radicals using their excess electrons.
Frankincense (Boswellia serrata)
Indian Frankincense encourages the production of hyaluronic acid and elastin– resulting in smooth, firm, and plump skin. Frankincense resin is high in boswellic acid which decreases inflammation in the skin and has been clinically studied to improve skin by increasing elasticity, decreasing sebum, and reducing wrinkles (as caused by photo-aging). We use Boswellia serrata resin- not essential oil, to acquire an extract that is gentle but highly effective as it contains more components than an essential oil could. Frankincense has a long history of topical and internal use. Its astringent qualities help to tighten pores, thereby decreasing their appearance.
Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica)
Gotu Kola is a powerful balancing herb traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine. It stimulates the production of collagen and contributes to skin healing. Gotu Kola is known to mitigate the production of scar tissue. Internally Gotu Kola is balancing. Gotu kola has been studied with Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E to reduce stretch marks in pregnancy.
